DreamPro Junior — Sponsor Pitch Drafts

Three ready-to-send email pitches calibrated to each target sponsor's existing community-support pattern. The ask is the same ($2,800 to underwrite 100 NanoVNAs for the pilot quarter — see DREAMPRO_JUNIOR_UNIT_ECONOMICS.md for the math); the framing differs.

All three reference the box-themes spec and the unit-economics model as supporting docs the recipient can read if they want depth.

1 — Adafruit (target: Phil Torrone, pt@adafruit.com)

Why this framing: Adafruit's identity is the Adafruit Learning System + Show-and-Tell + a deep "let's get more people making" ethos. Limor and Phil don't fund things that look like marketing — they fund things that look like more learning content existing in the world. The pitch leads with the educational arc and treats the NanoVNA underwriting as a means to publish four kid-safe RF measurement guides, not as a logo placement.

Hi Phil,

I've been a quiet user of the Adafruit Learning System for about a decade — the way you publish a guide for every product you sell is the most underrated educational asset on the open internet. I'm writing because I'm building something that could plausibly live alongside it.

Quick context: HiveJournal hosts an open-energy citizen science platform built on top of an analysis of 768 publicly available energy device patents (full breakdown at hivejournal.com/blog/meta-pattern-768-patents). 26% of those patents describe the same three design patterns operating together — coil geometry, resonance, and pulsed DC. We turned that finding into 29 replicable experiments anyone can run at home with basic electronics gear.

We're now extending that into a quarterly STEM kit subscription called DreamPro Junior — four boxes a year for kids ages 8–14, each one building on the previous box's hardware. Box 1 is coil geometry (wind a toroid, measure it on a NanoVNA). Box 2 is resonance (LC tank on the same coil). Box 3 is pulsed DC (555 timer driving the coil at the resonance the kid already found). Box 4 is synthesis — and the kid has now built, at home, on a breadboard, the configuration that 26% of those 768 patents describe.

Here's where Adafruit comes in.

The cost driver in Box 1 is the NanoVNA — at $55 retail it dwarfs everything else. We're shipping the pilot quarter under a "separate Tools Kit" model that puts the NanoVNA + clips + breadboard in a one-time $60 add-on, but $60 is a real friction point for the price-sensitive K-12 family. We're seeking a sponsor to underwrite up to 100 NanoVNA units at wholesale (~$28/unit, $2,800 total) for the pilot quarter, which would let us drop the Tools Kit retail to $30 and lower the Year-1 commitment per family from $220 to $190.

What you'd get in return:

  1. An "Adafruit-sponsored edition" callout on the Tools Kit packaging and on the Box 1 + Box 2 instruction cards (the two boxes that use the instrument). 100 K-12 households running real RF network-analyzer measurements at home, all of them seeing your name on the gear.
  2. First right of refusal on the Adafruit Learning System cross-publishing rights for the four kid-safe instruction cards. The procedure cards are written at a 4th-grade reading level and are designed to stand alone as ALS-style guides. We'd ship them under your guide template, with full attribution, at no cost.
  3. Sponsor placement on our public citizen-scientist world map (hivejournal.com/dreampro/map) and on the 2026 Open Energy competition leaderboard for the duration of the pilot.

The deeper bet is that NanoVNA literacy is currently bottlenecked at the hobbyist-electronics expert tier. The kit format is the cheapest known mechanism for moving an instrument down the age curve — and you've already proven the model with the SHARP-1 and CircuitPython rollouts. This is the same play, applied to RF measurement for the first time.

2 — SparkFun (target: SparkFun Education team, education@sparkfun.com)

Why this framing: SparkFun Education has spent a decade selling curriculum-aligned classroom kits (SparkFun Inventor's Kit, etc.). Their pattern is "this is what a teacher can do with their class on Monday morning." DreamPro Junior is complementary to SIK — it picks up where SIK leaves off (kids who can already blink an LED but want to do real RF measurement). The pitch leans on the COPPA-safe classroom track and frames DreamPro Junior as the SIK graduation path.

Subject: A natural successor to the SparkFun Inventor's Kit — proposing a co-sponsorship

Hi SparkFun Education team,

I've been thinking about what the SparkFun Inventor's Kit graduate looks like — the kid who's done all the SIK experiments, can wire up a breadboard from a schematic, and is ready for something more demanding than another LED-blinking exercise. Until now there hasn't been a great answer at the K-12 price point. I'd like to propose that DreamPro Junior could be that answer, and that SparkFun Education could co-sponsor it.

The boxes:

Every box maps directly to the classroom-safe template tier we ship on the platform (safety_level='classroom_safe', min_grade_band enforced — schema in migration 058). The kid-safe instruction card is written at a 4th-grade reading level and is the same procedure a teacher could run with their 5th-grade class.

This is where the co-sponsorship pitch lands. Two specific asks:

Why this framing: Digi-Key sponsors FIRST Robotics, Hackster.io community events, and large Maker Faire installations. Their community-support pattern is "visibility at scale, multi-year programs, professional packaging." The pitch should foreground the multi-year ambition, the existing professional infrastructure (this isn't a hobby project), and the specific overlap with FIRST Robotics' post-season audience. Tone is one register more formal than Adafruit/SparkFun.

Things to update in each pitch before sending

  1. Replace the placeholder URLs with the actual hivejournal.com paths once the docs go live (the docs are checked into docs/product/ but the public render path needs the docs server to pick them up — or these can be Google Doc links until then).
  2. Confirm the sponsor wall placement tier ("gold" in the Digi-Key pitch) matches what you actually want to commit. Currently the sponsor schema (migration 055) supports six tiers — pick deliberately.
  3. Confirm the Stripe affiliate revenue share mentioned in the SparkFun pitch is something you're willing to offer. If not, swap it for a different lever (e.g., free curriculum bundle).
  4. Add a personal note to the Adafruit and SparkFun pitches if you have any prior interaction with the recipient — even a "we met at Bay Area Maker Faire 2019" line lifts response rate substantially.
  5. Get a friendly intro to the Digi-Key community-programs team via a Hackster.io contact if at all possible — cold-emailing community@ has a ~5% response rate vs. ~40% for warm intros at that tier of sponsor.
